Landscape, gardens & feeling home

These ink illustrations, simple sketches and drawings with fountain pen, brush, pen and fineliner are quiet and peaceful, and yet so alive. They report on the happiness of feeling at home. In a wide landscape, in a natural garden, in a flat – as symbols of the only reliable home: in oneself.

Skizze Schwarz Weiss. Die mit Pinsel angefertigte Tusche Illustration zeigt zwei Mädchen von hinten, die in einem Sandkasten sitzen und spielen. Eine ist vielleicht 10, die andere 5 Jahre alt.

Watercolour drawings

Small characters evolve from roulades to cascades in imaginary scenery. They play, marvel, relax. These landscape drawings are colorful, magical, strange. Some illustrations resemble abstract sketches. While we look, we no longer wonder why beauty is so important. That’s why.

“Dear Anna, I just received your wonderful, poetic and refined card, and the little associated message, which goes straight to my heart. I can understand this small figure, in the middle of this fabulous forest which is both attractive, protective and intimidating.”

– Nina

Organic shapes

The organic forms present in the natural environment go far beyond what I could invent. When the eye rests more on the object than on the paper, the line of the brush while working has something unpredictable. It stops, the colour intensifies. The brush is dry, the line clears. The line trembles, hesitates, seeks. It knows where it is going. It has a life of ist own.

Natural wild garden

Foliage, shrubs, branches, leaves, flowers, plants, grass. In the wind, sun and rain, they live their lives slowly, generously. To be born, to grow, to prosper, to die – without drama, as the most natural thing ever. Maybe that’s why they’re called “nature”. Nature welcomes all sorts of encounters: garden bench, sandbox, playground, adventure field, swings and chairs for telling secrets…

“We received Anna’s mail. The drawings are incredibly beautiful!”

– Patricia

Freihand Skizze Schwarz Weiss.

Landscape drawings in black and white

Permeable, the lines bear witness to the miracle before our eyes. Dense vegetation in the middle of a waterfall, the vast space opposite the hillside hut, the sky and its baroque clouds. The brush, pen and fine-tipped felt pay their homage.

Landscape ink drawings

Apart from the mountain, which remains (apparently) in its place, everything moves: the sky thickens and then suddenly lights up, trees swing, leaves shake, water runs. Wind drawings show the invisible by its effects. In the same way, an ink landscape drawing implies a very lively hand, the trace of which has become still.

Feeling home

Who lives here? Who dances on the wooden floor, lies down on the couch, walks through these doors? The objects tell a story. The drawings with fountain pen, pen and ink select details and build new spaces around them. The brush explores the reliefs and textures, the regularities and breaks in the motif.

“Dear Anna, the tree is wonderful. Thank you. We’ll also frame your other drawing with the other tree.”
